Lake of Lost Clouds

So here you go, a painting that has been hanging around finished/unfinished for a long time until a recent afternoon when I stood staring at it.

And, the thought came to me why does this painting have to be “real, perfect, make sense” and be so fucking boring. The painting felt pretty (pretty) mundane, safe, rote.

So, I removed the clouds – specifically one iteration of the clouds – I lost the clouds present (reflected in the lake) by painting them out. So, that’s better…

Then moving the painting to my drawing, frame-prep easle, I scratched and nicked some lake away.

And, I thought well that’s relevant-important too.

So – no clouds and a nicked-up lake on purpose.

Better. Interesting. Not boring at all.

Love this painting.
